Forrest County Court Calendars Explained
There is no single countywide calendar in Forrest County. A term calendar from the state plays one role. A docket setting, a clerk's own schedule, and a municipal session notice each play a different one. The 2026 Mississippi Judiciary Directory and Court Calendar puts Forrest in the 10th Chancery District. It also covers the 12th Circuit District. It supplies the term framework plus court contacts. For a party's actual next hearing, though, a case-specific docket entry beats it.
Chancery Court works on a monthly term. It runs from the first business day through the last business day of each month. Being in term does not mean every Chancery case is set every day. Circuit, County, Justice, Hattiesburg Municipal, and Petal Municipal settings each need confirmation from that court or its clerk. A docket call, a printed list, or a courtroom posting can beat a general term notice for freshness.
Forrest County Court Calendar Sources
Routing a Forrest County calendar request starts with the court that owns the case.
The source should fit the question. The 12th District covers both Forrest and Perry Counties. Its court-information screen sets up the system and the contact route rather than serving as a public Forrest-only daily calendar. The Twelfth Circuit MEC Court Information page identifies the electronic system for Forrest Circuit and County Court. The 10th Chancery MEC page does the same for Chancery. Neither unauthenticated path offers a public daily settings feed.
| Forrest County source | Useful for | Limit to remember |
|---|---|---|
| SOS court calendar | District, term, court, and contact reference | A term is not an individual hearing notice. |
| MEC or PAMEC docket access | Permitted case docket sheets, notices, and documents | Registration, charges, and access limits apply. |
| Clerk or court administrator | Case-specific setting, courtroom, and current status | Give a case number or clear party and date details. |
| Municipal court schedule | Hattiesburg or Petal session information | It does not replace the citation or case setting. |
Note: Forrest County publishes no county-filtered daily calendar feed. For a specific setting, the relevant clerk stays the authority.
Finding Your Court Date
Start with the court named on the notice, citation, pleading, or existing docket. Forrest County Circuit and County Court records sit in Mississippi Electronic Courts. You reach them through permitted Public Access to Mississippi Electronic Courts, or PAMEC. PAMEC is a registration route for non-attorneys. It is not a free public search box. A Chancery record calls for the 10th Chancery MEC channel or the Chancery Clerk. A municipal or Justice Court citation belongs with that court. Don't assume the Circuit system holds it.
- Read the notice or citation for the court, case or cause number, party name, and the event being scheduled.
- For a permitted electronic check, use PAMEC registration and search only within the court that owns the matter. A restricted result is not proof that no case exists.
- Call Gwen Wilks, Forrest County Circuit Clerk, at 601-582-3213 for Circuit or County Court docket questions, or call the appropriate Chancery, Justice, or municipal clerk for its separate docket.
- Use the clerk's counter or the court's posted docket call when the online route is unavailable, the case is older, or a same-day setting needs confirmation. Bring the case number, names as filed, court, and requested date range.
- Check the municipal schedule when the matter is in Hattiesburg or Petal, then confirm the individual citation or case date with that municipal court. There is no verified daily public Forrest County feed to substitute for this confirmation.
Several details can change the answer. A lower-court appeal may carry a new receiving-court docket. A legacy file may sit incomplete online. And a sealed document may stay closed to an account. Give the clerk a name, an approximate filing year, the court, and the case type. That narrows the request far more than asking for every record tied to a person.
Forrest County Municipal Court Schedules
Municipal dates in Forrest County stay with the city court that set them.
Hattiesburg and Petal are separate offices. Hattiesburg Municipal Court takes city citations and municipal cases. The Petal Judicial Department keeps its own docket and schedule. Hattiesburg's current court notice reports a software migration. It has taken online payment down. The notice directs callers to 601-545-4933. That is an operational notice, not a sign a hearing was cancelled. Call before traveling with any date, payment, entrance, or service question. The Hattiesburg Municipal Court's official court page posts the current notice along with records context.
The lesson is simple. A municipal setting must be verified with the city court itself, never inferred from a county docket. Hattiesburg's court-services information describes the court division and its teleservice options.
Service availability helps callers reach the right office. Even so, the clerk must confirm a case-specific Forrest County court date.
Petal runs a steadier rhythm. Sessions fall on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 9:30 a.m. Entry is first come first serve. Trials are listed at 1:30 p.m. A session start time doesn't tell you when one case will be called. The clerk at 601-582-5351 can confirm the current session, the case date, and whether a listing is a trial or a regular setting. The Petal Judicial Department's schedule carries the official session and trial information.
The published Petal session is a starting point for a Forrest County court date check, not the final word on a case setting.
How to Read a Court Setting
A Forrest County setting is a procedural entry. It tells you when and where the court expects an event, not what happened there. The public SOS calendar lists the court, district or county, judge, term start and end, and office contact details. A clerk request should also carry the case or cause number, the parties, the hearing or event requested, and a date range. The MEC endpoint offers no public setting-results screen.
| Date | The listed calendar day for the setting. Confirm it after a reset, weather notice, or clerk instruction. |
|---|---|
| Time | The scheduled time or docket-call time. A docket call may not be the exact time one case is reached. |
| Courtroom | The court location or room named by the clerk, notice, or municipal court. Verify the current entrance before travel. |
| Judge | The presiding judge or court assignment shown by the official calendar or setting notice, subject to current assignment changes. |
| Setting type | The event label, such as arraignment, pretrial, hearing, trial, or status setting. It describes the scheduled step, not a disposition. |
A Forrest County case can climb from a lower court into County or Circuit Court through an appeal or a later filing. Keep both case numbers. Ask the clerk which court owns the next live setting.
Forrest County Court Setting Terms
Setting labels in Forrest County carry meaning only in context. What looks like a final ruling may be nothing more than a workflow tag. The Circuit MEC information page does not exist here. So rely on the current docket and the clerk for term definitions. Read a Forrest County court docket from its newest entry first. Then pull the related order if one exists. An unfamiliar local code deserves a question to the clerk. Guessing turns a short label into a conclusion it was never meant to carry.
- Setting
- A date or session assigned for a court event. It is not proof the event occurred or was completed.
- General continuance
- A setting has been continued, without the flag itself supplying the replacement date or reason.
- Order TBE
- “To be entered” indicates an order is expected in the workflow; it does not establish that the signed order is already available.
- Bound over
- A lower proceeding has moved toward a higher court or further prosecution step. Check the receiving court's docket.
Note: An appearance on a Forrest County court calendar is a scheduled procedural event. It is not a judgment, a conviction, or proof that anyone attended.
Continuances, Resets, and Cancellations
Forrest County courts continue, reset, and supersede settings all the time. The public term calendar will not tell you whether one particular matter moved. Check the newest docket entry. Then contact the court holding the case. A notice that vanishes from a public list might mean a reset, a courtroom change, or a restricted-access boundary. It could also be a lag in the public update. Its disappearance alone never proves the case ended.
Petal has one hard local rule: no continuances by phone. You must appear and speak with the judge. That is separate from calling the clerk for general schedule information. Hattiesburg's current migration warning gives the same lesson. A familiar online route may not be reliable right now. Send Circuit and Chancery questions to their own clerks. The county court offices do not share one live daily calendar. For Petal's separate court schedule, the Petal Judicial Department contact information page identifies the clerk channel.
That official page routes Petal calendar questions to the municipal clerk. A continuance, though, still takes the court appearance described above. Note that Petal's Pay Fine page covers payment methods and offers no public docket-results screen.
Paying a fine is not the same as confirming a court date. Check the current Forrest County appearance requirement with the issuing court.
Forrest County Court Calendar Gap
Forrest County calendar access depends on which court and which source you use. The county publishes no county-filtered daily calendar for Circuit or Chancery Court outside the controlled MEC or PAMEC path. That gap shapes the practical search order. Start with your notice or existing case record. Use permitted MEC or PAMEC access if you have it. Then ask the clerk about one specific setting. A request for "today's docket" works better when you name the court, the judge if known, the case number, and whether you are asking about a hearing, docket call, or trial. Precision gets an answer.
Calendar boundary. PAMEC access is limited to non-restricted electronic material and uses registration and per-page charges; it is not an open daily calendar service. The non-attorney PAMEC terms state the current electronic-access conditions.
Forrest County Justice Court runs on its own track. It covers four districts. A traffic ticket, small civil claim, or preliminary matter may need the district identified before the clerk can find the date. The Justice Court clerk line is 601-544-3136. A city citation stays with Hattiesburg or Petal Municipal Court unless the case later moves under the applicable procedure.
If You Miss a Court Setting
Act quickly with the Forrest County court that scheduled the event. Keep the citation, notice, case number, and any proof of the original setting. Call the clerk. Ask whether the setting stands, was reset, or now requires an appearance. If you have a lawyer, contact counsel too. A general term calendar or an old online payment screen will not answer a missed-setting question.
Missed setting. A missed Forrest County court setting can lead to a failure-to-appear or bench-warrant workflow entry, depending on the case and court. Contact the issuing court or clerk immediately for the current instruction and do not assume a new date has been assigned.
Forrest County Youth Court and sealed matters call for extra care. The Youth Court sits at 110 Alcorn Avenue. Its clerk line is 601-545-6185. Public access may require party, guardian, attorney, or court-authorized standing, so call before you travel. Leave protected personal details out of any broad request.
Forrest County Court Date Freshness
One recent weather closure shows why a Forrest County court date needs a final check. Hattiesburg's official news archive recorded a Municipal Court closure during winter weather in January 2025. The current court page also carries a software-migration notice. Neither example sets a standing cancellation rule. Both show why a general calendar or an old notice cannot replace the clerk's same-day instruction after weather, staffing, or system disruptions. Petal City Hall's contact page helps separate city administrative requests from the Judicial Department's court-date work.
That official page confirms the split. Petal Municipal Court handles the docket and the scheduled citation. City administrative requests follow a separate channel. Forrest County dates also belong to one court system each. Federal matters filed in the Hattiesburg division run through federal CM/ECF and PACER, not the county calendar. Hold a state court inquiry with the state clerk or municipal court named on the notice. Cross-system guessing wastes time.
